Exploration of relationship between physical processes affecting surface of Earth, such as tectonics and climate, and biological evolution. Geologic history of Earth from its formation and history of scientific advancement. Changes through time in Earth/atmosphere/ocean system discussed in terms of their effects on biological process and biodiversity. Climate issues considered in this historical context of global process. Modern anthropogenic climate change placed in context of geologic record of climate change. Concurrently scheduled with course CM173. S/U or letter grading.
