Financial Aid

UCLA provides a range of funding opportunities for graduate students during the course of their studies. The UCLA Graduate Division and the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences provide merit-based funding for graduate students in various forms:

  • University Special Fellowships
  • Department Fellowships
  • Research Assistantships
  • Teaching Assistantships
  • Department Scholarships
  • Extramural funding

Many of our students receive a combination of the awards listed above; others receive funding mostly from research assistantships. In addition to academic year funding, students may also receive summer employment as they work on research projects between the Spring and Fall quarters each year.

The following financial aid information provides a comprehensive summary of the need-based and merit-based awards for applicants and continuing students:

Applicants to the programs in Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences need to submit a Fellowship Application. This on-line form is part of the UCLA Graduate Division on-line application. Once you begin the application process, view the options on the Main Menu screen. The Fellowship Application is listed there. Although we consider all of our applicants for financial support, it is imperative that you review the Special Fellowships section for eligibility for additional funding opportunities.
