Madeleine Kerr is a Postdoctoral Scholar at UCLA EPSS in Professor Carolina Lithgow-Bertelloni’s group, and she was recently awarded the UCLA Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship. She is a geodynamicist and planetary scientist who is interested in the evolution of the second-largest terrestrial body in our solar system: Venus. Specifically she is interested in the role that solid-state convection and mineral phase transitions play in controlling the flow of energy through planetary mantles and the diversity of their surface environments. She obtained her B.S. in Physics and Theatre at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA and her Ph.D. from UC San Diego at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She is additionally interested in the intersection of performance art and science and has directed two plays bringing STEM students together to tell stories showing how science, culture, and politics are deeply interconnected.
