Xiyuan Bao, an EPSS graduate student studying planetary science under Department Chair Carolina Lithgow-Bertelloni, has been selected for the AGU Study of the Earth's Deep Interior Section Award for Graduate Research.

Xiyuan is a 5th year PhD candidate studying experimental and computational Geodynamics on terrestrial and habitable planets. He utilizes lab fluid experiments and numerical simulation to study the mixing and transport of mantle convection in great detail. His work utilizes physics-informed machine learning and data mining.
