EPSS wishes a very happy birthday to Emeritus Professor John Rosenfeld, who celebrates his 100th on July 14, 2020. John was born in Oregon in 1920, and earned his PhD from Harvard University in 1954. He joined the UCLA faculty in 1957, in what was then the Department of Geology. John conducted in-depth petrologic studies of metamorphic rocks, focusing on terranes in New Hampshire and Vermont. Among his most spectacular specimens are rotated garnet crystals that record deformational and chemical conditions as they grew. John has been a fixture of mineralogy and petrology teaching and mentorship at UCLA for most of its history, and we send a hearty congratulations to John and his family on the occasion of this remarkable milestone.
